point blu Editorial: 8th ESLO Congress in Cannes

Dear colleagues and friends,
 
We were delighted to hear that our friend, Alain Decker, has accepted the responsibility of organising the 8th ESLO Conference in Cannes at the French Riviera. When Alain suggested to us that we join up with the organisation of the Scientific Programme, we realised, after our initial elatio n, the extent of the responsibility that we had accepted and we began to ask ourselves some questions. Some of these included: How do you organise a successful conference? What will most interest the audience? What do conference delegates, having invested a considerable amount, expect when they come to such meetings? The response to these questions will necessarily involve perfect organisation, which fortunately will be taken care of by the President, A. Decker. Similarly, it also involves organising a Scientific Programme, which responds to the clinical and practical questions of our daily practice, as well as the acquisition of new knowledge. Such knowledge may not have an obvious link to our work in the chair, but may well have a place in the practice of tomorrow. Lingual Orthodontics is practiced as a team, and is a job which, in the chair, involves two pairs of hands. This is where our assistants have a significant role to play. This is why we are creating a space for them. We would like to limit the number of rooms in order to concentrate on the essential, and to select the best conferences without missing anything. [...]
